Bali Kite Festival

Denpasar, Bali, becomes the center of the world for all kite lovers, rushed to the Indonesian island Bali Kite Festival, a traditional event with a deep religious meaning: the objective of these kites is indeed to to send a message to the gods, because it bless the fields with a bountiful harvest. The festival lasts for three days and in the skies of Bali will hover over a thousand kites.

It ended two days the 35th edition of the spectacular “Bali International Kite Festival”, an athletic competition of kite flying which is held every year in July in Indonesia in the Padang Galak, and more precisely on the beach in Sanur, in the province of Bali. The kites are made and flown by the various teams participating in the competition, representing the villages near Denpasar, which is the capital of the province of Bali.

The kites are very large – can reach up to 4 meters in width and 10 in length – and are traditionally three types: a form of fish, bird or leaf. It establishes the winner considering the launch facilities, the height and stability of flight, landing, and of course the beauty of the kite. The event, which every year attracts many tourists from abroad, it is also a religious festival organized to send a message to the Hindus, to increase the harvest the following year.
